Storyline

A night you'd never forget.

Her heart stopped, face whitened and stomach sank. She dropped the phone and collapsed to her knees. Images flashed though her mind like a wash of realisation.
“I let him go, I knew something was wrong and I let him go” she whispered to herself.
The events of the last few weeks had taught her that what she thought would never happen in her life time. Regardless of how unlikely, they were, still in fact possible. But this, she never saw this coming; not from a mile. She buried her face in her hands and reflected on the last words she has just heard.
"Should I have seen this coming, how could I of?" She played it back over and over in her mind to make complete sense of what was going on.

Jodie ate her tea alone that night, it took her two hours to make; she wasn't prepared to let it go to waste.
A conversation with her sister struck a nerve with him, it’s nothing that hadn't already been said, however he lost it; screaming and shouting filled the house. It was the worst he had ever been since she left them. Jodie pleaded with him to leave it alone, not to call her, it wouldn’t make the situation any better. She wasn’t going to pick up, nor was she going to come back and Jodie knew that, however her plead feel on deaf ears. He never could see what was best for him, he was older and knew better, he was on a war path and nothing was going to stop him.
She ate her dinner in kitchen.
She probably should have spotted the silence before the storm but all she could focus on was the incessant ticking on the clock above the conservatory doors. Her focus was interrupted with the click of the kitchen door. His coat was on, a cigarette in his left hand. Jodie knew he was going out and she thought she has a good idea of where.
But she asked regardless without looking at him “where are you going?”
Still stood in the doorway between the two rooms, he was silent.
She asked again, this time through gritted teeth, still staring at the wall.
“Dad, where are you going?”
Nothing, only the ticking of the clock. Jodie felt rattled, he walked towards her.
“You better not be going to mums.” she said abruptly
“If you go there you’re going to get me into trouble, do you realise that your actions have repercussions?”
The constant silence angered her even more. He stopped by her shoulder and from behind he wrapped his arms around her tightly. Kissed her forehead and whispered
“Goodbye”
He walked away towards the back door placed his hand on the door handle.
“You still haven’t told me where you’re going!” she yelled.
He looked back and spoke softly
“I’m sorry Jodie, I love you”
He opened the door and closed it promptly behind him.
She could hear his foot steps towards the garage. Jodie grabbed her empty plate, stood up and pushed the chair back. Walking towards the sink she placed the plate in the washing bowl.
She walked through the hallway towards the living room, slumped on the sofa and exhaled; debating how to spend the rest of her evening until her boyfriend got home, in an attempt to pacify what had just happened. Her phone began to buzz in her pocket. She ran her finger across the screen to answer and put the phone to her ear.
“Jo, It's your dad there?” spoken the anxious women on the other end of the phone
“No, he just left. Why? What’s up?” Jodie replied
“Your mum just rang, your dads been ringing her”
“I know, I told him to leave it and that she wasn't going to pick up”
“Jo, your uncle is on his way to yours now”
“Why? What’s going on?” Jodie questioned.
“Your dad left a message on her phone….”
“And…” Jodie prompted.
“He left her a message to say if she wasn't at the bridge in half an hour, it would rest on her conscience."
“I don’t understand”
“If she doesn't show up… he’s going to jump. Your mum has rang the police they are on their way to the bridge now”
Jodie took the phone from her ear and hung up the phone.

Evaluation
I feel my story board highlights the key events in my story in relation to audio and although my story is over seven hundred words it is quite a short story. I did struggle to pick out key evens so I chose to stick with moment of character or changes to the environment. I chose to write a story that started at the end and ended at the end a full cereal. I did this because I felt in films and games this has an impact on the viewer from the beginning. I find if someone watching a trailer sees the devastation before the events, it makes them ask questions and want to know what happened. Rather than watching to see the outcome.
I’m happy with the outcome and feel I achieved what I set out for. Despite my poor drawing skills, I feel the dark and dingy felling within the scenes matches the dark theme of the story. I would of liked to of added more shots to have for someone viewing to see the full visual picture however I did not think they were relevant enough to add. The focal point of the story board was sound.
My story is of a young girl struggling to communicate with her recently separated father. They are both angry and hurt by the leaving of the mother. Yet one character is struggling more than the other realises. The father leaves after a massive fight to attempt suicide. Very dark this is why I chose to white sketches on a black background rather than black sketches on white background. My story is also set at night this another reason for the drawings and scenes are dark. Most of my audio is speech, however as this story was inspired by a similar even I, myself have experienced. I tried to remember the key noises I hear and what things stuck out in my mind, for example the footsteps as the father walks away. Although they weren’t load they echoed in my mind because I was scared it would be the last time I heard my father leave. This method helped me to visualises and explore more sounds. I could have made the camera angles and notes around the edges neater.

However for my first story board I am happy with the result.
